IFPTE Calls on Congress to Reject the Current Continuing Resolution and Get to Work Passing One That Funds the Government and Protects the Constitution
Washington, DC - Today IFPTE urged Representatives and Senators to vote against the Continuing Resolution (CR) proposed by Republican leaders in a closed process that rejected any and all bipartisan collaboration. Lacking adequate funding levels for core federal functions, as well as provisions to stop unlawful and unconstitutional actions by the Trump administration, this CR must be scrapped now so that members of both parties can begin working on a CR that will earn broad support within Congress and among the American people before government funding expires at midnight on March 14.
IFPTE President Matt Biggs said, “Any member of Congress who supports this CR is voting to gut key federal functions, permit Musk and DOGE’s continued unlawful actions, and hobble vital services that are needed every day by millions of Americans, including veterans, seniors, children, farmers, small business owners and the poor. Every Representative and every Senator who has the courage to listen to their constituents should put partisanship aside and work together to create both a process and a bill that is worthy of the oath they swore when they took office.”
IFPTE Secretary-Treasurer Gay Henson said, “Make no mistake about it, if this closed-minded charade leads to a closing of the government, responsibility for that failure will rest upon the party that controls the White House, the Senate, and the House of Representatives. Speaker Johnson can keep telling his caucus to hide from their constituents as he offers them the cynical choice between slowly destroying the federal government or quickly shutting it down, but should the government shut down voters in every Congressional District will realize who failed them and will hold those members responsible.”
