IFPTE Mourns the Loss of Longtime EA/Local 1937 Leader, Dan Kirk
IFPTE is sad to announce the passing of our Union Brother, Dan Kirk, who was a member of Local 1937 - Engineering Association (EA, Local 1937) for 43 years, including many years serving on the EA board. EA, Local 1937 president, Carolyn Wilson, who worked closely with Dan for many years offered his wife & family along with scores of EA union brothers & sisters the Union’s deepest condolences, while also announcing that the EA will be donating to ALS research in Dan's honor.
“Dan spent his career with the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) where he worked at Sequoyah as an Engineer and later as a Project Control Specialist and spent many years as an IT lead Engineer in Chattanooga,” Wilson said. “His service to fellow union members will not be forgotten. He served as an EA executive officer as Treasurer, and kept a healthy, tight rein on the EA finances. Our Union offers our deepest sympathies to his family.”
IFPTE secretary-treasurer, Gay Henson, who is the longtime former president of the EA, a current EA member and Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) employee, and worked very closely with Dan for decades, also provided thoughts on his passing:
“As a local representative, he was involved in grievance filings, hearings. He worked firsthand with the members to resolve issues. He was proud to assist folks get past the hurdle of their first grievance. Dan was also a gifted singer and guitarist, sharing his love for music with all who knew him. More than anything, Dan was family man, dedicated to his wife, children & grandchildren. He loved his church family and was always willing to give a helping hand to his friends. All of us at IFPTE mourn his loss and send his family and friends our deepest condolences.”
Brother Dan passed away on January 2nd. A memorial will be held on January 18th in Soddy Daisy, Tennessee.
