“Solidarity, Unity, Resistance” - IFPTE Participates in ‘Presidents Panel’ at APALA Convention

IFPTE was invited this week to take part in a ‘Presidents Panel’ discussion at the Asian Pacific American Labor Alliance’s (APALA) 18th biennial convention in Los Angeles.  The convention’s theme is “Solidarity, Resistance, Unity”, and includes workshops and presentations geared towards combating the unprecedented attacks of the Trump Administration against Unions and Union members, communities of color, and immigrants.

Along with President Biggs, the panel also included AFSCME President Lee Saunders, AFGE President Everett Kelley, and AFT President Randi Weingarten.  Biggs commented that, “it was an honor to not only be able to participate on this panel and be a part of APALA’s convention, but to share IFPTE’s story of resistance against the attacks on IFPTE’s members and our Locals by this Administration.  We are proud to stand shoulder to shoulder with APALA and all of the Unions and our members that are fully invested in this fight.”

APALA, of which the IFPTE International, Local 20, Local 21, and SPEEA/Local 2001 are affiliates, is an AFL-CIO constituency organization representing the interests of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander rank-and-file Union members and workers overall.  Twelve members of IFPTE attended the Convention, including APALA Board members Teresa Ellis from the International and Kat General from Local 21.
