IFPTE Participates in Summer AFL-CIO Executive Council Meeting

IFPTE President, Matt Biggs, Secretary-Treasurer, Gay Henson, and Assistant to the Executive Officers, Brian Kildee, attended the biannual AFL-CIO executive council meeting this week in Washington, DC.  The Executive Council, of which IFPTE is a member, comprises 55 democratically elected officials who represent the nearly 15 million members of the AFL-CIO. They set broad policies and goals for the union movement.

In addition to conducting the business of the AFL-CIO, including reviewing the labor federation’s budget, the meeting focused on the labor movement’s ongoing legislative, legal, and grassroots efforts to fight the Trump Administration’s attacks on working families, particularly federal workers.

SEIU Brother, David Huerta, who was unjustly arrested in early June by the Trump Administration’s masked ICE agents simply for engaging in civil disobedience, was also in attendance and addressed the Executive Council and attendees.

The Executive Council is elected at the AFL-CIO quadrennial convention and meets at regular intervals between conventions.
