The Society Visits CUPE 5525 Picket Line in Solidarity
Last week, the Society of United Professionals (SUP/IFPTE Local 160) visited the picket line of CUPE Local 5525 to offer our support and solidarity to the striking frontline care workers at Villa Colombo Homes for the Aged Inc.
These courageous workers—all of whom are racialized women—have been on strike since May 28, fighting for their first collective agreement. Instead of bargaining in good faith, Villa Colombo is demanding unfair concessions and has resorted to using scab labour to try to break the strike. But the workers are standing strong.
They are demanding what all workers deserve: paid sick days, fair scheduling, and access to basic health benefits. The Society stands firmly with CUPE 5525 in their fight for justice, dignity, and respect at work. Learn more here.
